Description
Booklet containing the text of an address given by Porter H. Dale during the 1923 special Republican senatorial primary to fill a seat vacated following the death of William P. Dillingham. Dale opens by situating the audience in the current political moment, highlighting legislative achievements of the past decade, including the regulation of banking and immigration, and the prohibition of child labor. He points to his own role in crafting "constructive policy" as a member of the United States House of Representatives. He then turns toward contrasting his own views and experiences to those of his two opponents, John W. Redmond, and Stanley C. Wilson. Much of the text focuses on Dale's response to what Redmond had deemed the main "blocs" swinging political action at the time. Dale points to Redmond's statement that these blocs are "seeking selfish legislation and stirring up hatred" and questions whether that is true, and further, whether those blocs can even be clearly defined.
