Notice to the Republicans of Brattleboro, 1912
Title
Notice to the Republicans of Brattleboro, 1912
Description
Notice to the Republicans of Brattleboro calling for voters to write in the name of E.C. Crosby for election to the Vermont House of Representatives because "you are under no obligation to support a candidate nominated by a small majority of his party." Crosby ran on the Progressive Party ticket, a newly formed political party convened by Theodore Roosevelt, and popularly known as the Bull Moose Party. He was declared the winner of election after four rounds of ballots finally produced a candidate with a majority of the votes. A local newspaper, the Vermont Phoenix, described the scene as "a day of strenuous voting," though "a drizzling rain detracted from the zest of the occasion." (Vermont Phoenix, Brattleboro, Friday, September 6, 1912). Crosby competed for the seat against Republican Solon A. Richmond and Democrat Dr. E.R. Lynch.
