Title

Oral history interview with Becca Balint

Description

Becca Balint speaks about her experiences in the Vermont Senate during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly focusing on the initial transition to virtual sessions. She explains the smaller size of Vermont's Senate made it easier for all their members to be in a Zoom call (as opposed to the larger Vermont House of Representatives). She also recalls tough conversations around topics like masking or the line between personal responsibility versus civil liberties. She was sworn in as president pro tempore of the Vermont Senate on 6 January 2021 and reflects on how the capitol insurrection affected her recollections of other events around that time. Other topics she touches on include the economic impact of the pandemic and her family's individual experience of it.

Becca Balint served as a member of the Vermont Senate from Windham County from 2015 to 2023. She was majority leader from 2017 to 2021 and president pro tempore from 2021 to 2023. She was elected as Vermont's representative to the United States House of Representatives in 2022.
