Janette Shaffer discusses her experiences at the Vermont Department of Libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly focusing on their communication strategies and the transition to working from home in 2020. She also describes moving houses and navigating social interactions while maintaining social distances during the pandemic, including the contrast in her different experiences living in Barre and Montpelier, Vermont.
Janette Shaffer joined the Vermont Department of Libraries as Assistant State Librarian for Library Advancement in 2019. She had previously worked in medical libraries, including at both the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Georgetown University Medical Center, holding positions in reference and instruction before slowly moving into library administration. She moved to Vermont in 2007 to become the Assistant Library Director at Hartness Library (the library system serving both Vermont State University's campus in Randolph and the Community College of Vermont). She subsequently also held positions in marketing at the Community College of Vermont and the University of Vermont.
