Title

Oral history interview with Andrea Howe

Description

Andrea Howe discusses changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to both the town government in Marlboro, Vermont, and other aspects of her life. As the town's assistant treasurer, she describes their in-office practices and the transition of their town meeting from in-person to Zoom and then to voting by Australian ballot. She also explains the impact of the pandemic on her routine as a school bus driver. When schools first closed and bus drivers were only delivering meals to the end of students' driveways, she used her increased free time to study herbalism. After students returned to school, there were new procedures and restrictions. In particular, she speaks about the behavioral changes she witnessed in the children she drove following isolation. Other topics she mentions include people who moved to Marlboro during the pandemic, navigating differences of opinion about COVID, crossing state borders, spending time outdoors, and restrictions on visitation at her mother's nursing home.

Andrea Howe served in multiple positions for the town of Marlboro, Vermont, from 1994 until 2023. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was the assistant town treasurer and also worked as a school bus driver.
