Oral history interview with Jill Greene
Title
Oral history interview with Jill Greene
Description
Jill Greene describes both her experiences as a nurse in a Michigan hospital at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent move to Vermont in September 2020. In Michigan, she was redeployed from the PACU to the ICU, but did not perceive that she was adequately trained or physically protected with appropriate PPE to safely care for acutely ill COVID patients. After moving to Vermont, she found a position in home health, serving a wide geographical area with clients "as far north as Vergennes [and] as far south as Pawlet." She discusses the decision to relocate from Michigan to Vermont and their family's mixed experiences adjusting to the move. She is closer to her family and their children are in a better school; however, her husband has had difficulty finding comparable employment in Vermont. She also touches on challenges with online schooling for young children and Vermont's housing market.
At the time of this interview, Jill Greene, RN, had just started work in the birthing center at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, Vermont. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, she was working as a pre-op/PACU nurse in Michigan. She grew up in Vermont and moved her family back to the state during the pandemic in September 2020. Upon arriving in Vermont, she deliberately sought a non-hospital nursing job and ended up working in home health.
