Title

Oral history interview with Dennis Fuller

Description

Dennis Fuller discusses the operations of the Canaan Historical Society during the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, he describes the historical society's relationship with the Alice M. Ward Memorial Library. The historical society's museum is in the library building and followed library decisions regarding closures and other safety precautions during the pandemic. He also explains other aspects of the historical society's operations, including collecting practices, interactions with patrons on social media, membership, meetings, and grants. Specific topics include acquisition of items from a local historian, Bea Holmes, and a project digitizing glass plate negatives. He notes that other aspects of his routine did not change as much since both he and his wife were retired. He also mentions that many of the older residents of the town died during the pandemic.

At the time of this interview, Dennis Fuller was chairman of the board of the Canaan Historical Society. He was born and raised in Beecher Falls, a village in Canaan, Vermont. After he retired from a career with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, he became involved with the historical society and was primarily responsible for staffing their museum at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
