Title

Oral history interview with Susan Bauchner

Description

Susan Bauchner discusses her experiences in Florida at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and the process of her return to Warren, Vermont, in June 2020. She describes the pandemic's impact on her as a person living alone and the joy that she was able to find in activities like writing poetry, acting classes, swimming, and family cooking events over Zoom. She shares some of her poems and talks about her creative process. Skiing also became an important outlet, and she eventually adjusted her seasonal calendar to remain in Vermont during the ski season, traveling to Florida for mud-season instead of the whole winter. She mentions her work with the Mad River Valley Interfaith Council briefly, particularly focusing on the pandemic's impact on the Mad River Valley Community Pantry (their food shelf).

Susan Bauchner of Warren, Vermont, was wintering in Florida at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since she had traveled out of state, she was required to isolate for two weeks upon her return to Vermont in June 2020. A former French teacher, she retired to Vermont's Mad River Valley around 2003 and was a ski instructor at Sugarbush Resort for several years. At the time of this interview, she was active in the local Jewish community, president of the Mad River Valley Interfaith Council, and a member of the Poetry Society of Vermont.
