Oral history interview with John Alberghini
Title
Oral history interview with John Alberghini
Description
John Alberghini discusses the Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The bulk of the interview describes the shift in teaching modalities to virtual learning after schools were closed and faculty, staff, and students were equipped with computers and trained. While PPE was available, supply chain issues related to computers made the transition more difficult. Co-curricular activities were significantly impacted and often cancelled. There was no in-person graduation in 2020 but the school system shifted back to a hybrid form of learning the next fall. Throughout the pandemic, food service personnel continued to provide meals to students for pick up or delivery by bus drivers. Alberghini also notes the importance of communication with the community and various government agencies, especially the Vermont Health Department and the Vermont Agency of Education, to their pandemic response.
John Alberghini served as the superintendent of schools for the Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District during COVID pandemic. He had previously been employed as a school administrator in the school district for several decades, including roles as principal of the Smilie Memorial School in Bolton, Vermont, and as a superintendant in the Chittenden East Supervisory Union (CESU), a predecessor district of the Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District.
