Title

Oral history interview with John Douglas

Description

John Douglas discusses his privileged background, buying a farm in Putney, Vermont, meeting Robert Kramer, and becoming involved in the filming of "People's War" in Vietnam. He talks of the Newsreel Collective in Putney (later called Red Clover) and the Free Vermont movement, including the founding of the Free Vermont newspaper and the Common Ground Community Restaurant, life in the commune, conflict with townspeople over the Free Farm, and an F.B.I. raid. He describes the work he was doing, making silk screen posters for Free Vermont, setting up meetings with Vietnamese in Montreal, and film making. He finishes by describing visiting communes as part of the Free Vermont movement, the gathering of the tribes in both Franklin and Putney, Vermont, drug use, and his relationship with Windham College.
