Main Street, Northfield Falls, Vt.

Northfield Falls is a small village in the town of Northfield, and was originally named Gouldsville, after Joseph Gould who built a large woolen mill in the Falls. The large building on the left, built in 1892 and known as the Cross Block, still stands today under the name The Falls General Store. It also housed the post office for a time in earlier days. Today this Main Street is known as Route 12, and if you turn left at the store, you will head up Cox Brook Road and through three (count 'em) historic covered bridges right in a row, the only place in the USA to have that unique feature.
