Description
Onlookers do not seem too concerned about their safety as they get up close to view this devastating train wreck. According to a newspaper report in the May 7, 1936, Burlington Free Press, a brakeman was killed by escaping steam and the engineer was seriously burned. The accident happened at the Cross Brothers Granite Co. spur at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. The freight train was pulling 60 cars, and many cattle and calves in railroad cars died as well.
