Photograph of the Van Ness House's parlor. First opened in 1870 in Burlington, Vermont, this hotel was purchased in 1881 by Urban A. Woodbury, who would later become the forty-fifth governor of Vermont. His additions to the Van Ness House would allow it to accommodate up to four hundred guests, and three Presidents (William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, and William Howard Taft) once stayed here. The Van Ness House burned down in 1951, and a branch of TD Bank now stands in its place.
