Jailer's House
Title
Jailer's House
Description
The house of North Hero's jail keeper, which is attached to the Grand Isle County Court House and Jail. While mostly used as the residence of the jail keeper and his family, the probate judge sometimes lived here. The use of the two-cell jail in the Court House was discontinued in 1965 as it was too easy to escape from. The lady in front of the house is Mrs. Josie Miner Haynes, wife of Probate Judge William E. Haynes.
