Description
Color postcard of the Howard Johnson's restaurant on Route 302 in Berlin, Vermont. The image shows the restaurant with its famous cupula and two blue cars parked alongside. This view includes an ornate sign advertising the restaurant, "ice cream, grille, fried clams, frankforts, daily luncheon, [and] steaks chops chicken." The building is white with a light orange roof and robin's-egg-blue shutters. The restaurant was built in 1950 and demolished in 2013. This postcard must have been created before 1962, when it was donated to the Vermont Historical Society.
The text on the back of the postcard reads: "The Famous Howard Johnson's Restaurant, Montpelier Vermont: Conveniently located on Route 302 between Montpelier, the Capitol of Vermont, and Barre, the Granite Center of the World. Food of superlative quality, seafoods, delicious ice cream, together with OLD TIME VERMONT HOSPITALITY, attract a distinguished patronage. Fernando Saldi, prop."
