Description
This is the house of Albert W. Ferrin on Middlesex Street (now Terrace Street) probably in 1892. Ferin, the treasurer of the Montpelier Savings Bank and Trust, was active in town civic and social affairs. He purchased the house in January 1892 from another banker, T.J. Devitt, for $3000. (Deavitt had purchased the house nine years earlier for $1800.) Seven months after the sale, the local newspaper reported that Ferrin was making many alterations to the house he had recently purchased. This photograph was probably taken on the occasion of the completion of those changes, which probably included the big wrap-around porch and connected porte cochere. The porch and barn remain on the house today, although the shutters have been removed, the siding has been changed, and a sleeping porch has been added above the porte cochere.
