On the job for victory

Grant, Gordon, 1875-1962

Gordon Grant was a war correspondent and artist for Harper's Weekly and at the age of 24 was sent to South Africa to cover the Boer War. After the war, he joined the staff of Puck's Illustrated in New York City, and then joined the Army National Guard in 1916. He remained in the Army through World War I, mustering out as a captain in 1919. He produced a number of posters in addition to this one, and they represent the interesting perspective of an active duty officer and, for this image in particular, a soon-to-be retired veteran.
