Description
2nd Vermont Infantry Regiment national flag. Attached to staff by sleeve. Fringe is present. Canton style is rectangular, and is 24 in by 38 in. There are 34 gold painted stars arranged in a double ellipse. Stripes are 5.5 inches in width, and the white is in poor condition. The bottom two stripes are missing. Place of issue: Burlington, VT. Date of issue: 06/20/1861. Governor Fairbanks took a direct involvement in acquiring flags for the 2nd Vermont.
On June 20, 1861 the 2nd Vermont Regiment was mustered into federal service and Governor Fairbanks presented the national colors after delivering a "very stirring and emphatic address."
