Description
1st Vermont Cavalry Regimental Flag. Attached to staff by sleeve. Cotton fringe present. Embroidered "Tiffany & Co" in left corner. Half state seal/half US seal in center, "Freedom and Unity" on scroll. Date of issue: 07/1862. This flag was issued in order to replace a similar flag that was lost in Shenandoah Valley when the baggage train was burnt. In late July, the new standard, "of the same material and design as the original" reached the camp of the 1st Vermont Cavalry.
