Description
Portrait of Solomon W. Jewett (1808-1894) printed on an envelope, with a biographical statement beginning "Solomon W. Jewett, one of the very first healers in America..." Born Weybridge, Vermont, merino sheep breeder and Vermont legislator, Jewett became a practitioner of spirit magnetism in the 1860s, and was known as the "Shepherd of Vermont and California." The envelope was postmarked February 20, 1894, addressed to the Hon. H.L. Sheldon, Middlebury, Vermont.
