Scans of excerpts from a diary kept by Montpelier resident Phil S. Howes, documenting his experiences during the 1918 influenza epidemic. Howes writes of the struggle to find medical personnel, the overwhelming of the local hospital with influenza cases, and deaths. Both Howes and his wife volunteered at the hospital during the epidemic. A transcription of the diary excerpts is attached.
