Description

Chip (Joseph Jr.) Troiano speaks of his years serving in Vietnam in the 11th Armored Cavalry, in an Aero-Rifle Platoon (ARP), and later, in a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP). He describes his training, missions, equipment, and returning home to an assignment on riot duty after Martin Luther King's assasination. After his discharge in June, 1968, he enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Technology to study photography and became involved in the anti-war movement. Chip speaks of traveling to West Glover, Vermont for the summer in 1970, then moving on to Berkeley, California for a few months, and finally returning to purchase a farm in Stannard, Vermont in July, 1972. Chip concludes the interview by describing life in Stannard and Caledonia County, Vermont, including working as a carpenter, as a program coordinator for a CETA program, and as an investigator. He describes his diagnosis with PTSD. As well, in his interview he mentions Mullein Hill Commune, the Barton Food Coop, Bernie Sanders, and Vermont politics.
